Beach, paint, puff stitches, and tan lines

I’m still on a bit of a hiatus with the blog, but I am trying to work it into our summer a little bit more.  I mentioned in an earlier post that I had volunteered (?) to paint my Aunt’s house, thinking it would only take a few days.  Not EVEN close!!!  I’ve almost finished with the main color finally and should be able to start the two different trim colors sometime next week.  The front of the house was finished yesterday, so today I put the shutters back up.  I have to give that white at the bottom a new coat and then the eves of the roof are the same blue as the shutters, they need an update as well.  That’s my “sweaty, no makeup, in scroungy clothes and I really don’t give a damn” look.

Tape off the windows and shutters back up! Can you see my happiness?

I’ve also taken on maintenance of not only my yard (now that all my older boys are out of the house), but my aunt’s and mother-in-law’s too.  That tan is NOT from our beach trip, but from outside physical labor.  You should see me in the winter, my husband calls that color “translucent”, lol.  In fact, here’s my FitBit tan from Monday after mowing two lawns.  I didn’t wear my FitBit at the beach and actually had a little strip of sunburn there for a couple of days.

However, enough about that, the point was I’ll be finishing up the painting soon and can return to my normal schedule.  Although, I plan on painting my house in the Fall, but I don’t believe it will take nearly as long. I also won’t feel as guilty about skipping a day or two here and there when it’s my own house.

Last week, we spent three days in Daytona Beach with my parents and sister’s family.  It’s a seven hour drive for us, but so worth every one of those 300 miles!  My sister-in-law who lives near me took on the care of the three cats and our dog, who was recently returned to our household when my son moved out-of-state.  Willow, the cat that I rarely get pictures of because she never stops moving, wasn’t happy about the arrangement and kept insisting I take her too.  She was fascinated with my suitcase.  A tropical storm was hitting the FL gulf and we didn’t know how much rain we would see, so I packed a lot of hotel room activities that we ended up not needing.  Willow didn’t end up going, of course, and she has stuck like glue to me since I’ve returned.

We were actually ready to come home that last day because I had made a MAJOR mistake.  I packed last year’s sunscreen, all the kid’s burnt.  I didn’t as badly, but I contribute that to the fact that I already had a good tan from all the time I’ve been spending outdoors. Sabrina and her friend had decided to lay out most of the second day and used my sunscreen, they burnt BAD.  Sabrina also forgot to put ANY on her stomach at all and ended up with blisters.  She’s still recovering.  Zakk and Shay didn’t get too horrible, although Zakk’s face peeled.

We had a lot of fun though and it’s always nice seeing my family again.  They (and Sabrina’s friend) live in Florida.  Though it’s only an eight-hour drive between us, we don’t make it more than a couple of times a year.  I’m hoping we will be moving back to FL in the net couple of years.  I’m such a water person, I’m just not happy being landlocked all the time.  And I miss my family!  My sister and I lived within walking distance, so this has been rough.

While I’m on my blog hiatus, I’m not doing too many creative things.  I am listening to a TON of podcasts while I’m doing all this work though.  The information I’m learning is renewing my passion and I actually had to talk myself into painting today instead of skipping it to work on the blog.  It’s supposed to rain the rest of the week and I’m crossing my fingers it does, lol.  I’m making a lot of notes to improve your experience here and I really can’t wait to start working on some of the ideas.  “Yarny” printables are working their way through my mind currently.

I do have a new crochet project I’ve worked up and sneak peeks have been posted on Instagram.  The crochet part is done, but I want to incorporate some fabric into it, so I don’t want to give away too much just yet. Just think beach!

I also almost finished my Week 5 CAL squares.  I ran out of yarn or they would be done, I’ll be running for that as soon as the rain comes.  Still haven’t blocked Week 4, I really should do so I can post them.  I’ve also started another order for a birthday present in July, but I can’t talk about that one either yet.  It’s a repeat but the new colors are really nice.  I’ve also decided I will be making a unicorn.  Shalyn is really into them right now, along with every other young girl.  I think she’d enjoy that, maybe for Christmas.

Thanks again for sticking with me and for all the new readers, thank you!  I usually do a lot better with posts, the summer sunshine just draws me outside.  I’m thrilled that you’ve found me even though I haven’t worked for it the last few months.  Stick around, it will only get better!

Keep creating, I know I will!

  1. Looks like you had an awesome beach vacation Trudy!! I already love whatever the mystery crochet/fabric project is – what yarn are you using? I really like it whatever it is. I’ve been on a mini hiatus myself. I’m crocheting like crazy but haven’t posted a lot. Mostly because I haven’t finished anything and I’m spending my time trying to finish up my projects. 😀

    1. The yarn is Lion Brand Hometown USA in Los Angeles Tan. I LOVE the yarn, however not really for the project I used it on. Oops! Went and bought another type to try the same project again in no other color but (drum roll please) aqua, of course. People are going to get really tired of my blue/green combos, but it’s my happy color. The vacation was pretty wonderful, though I was ready to get back to my projects both inside and outdoors. Can’t wait to see what you’re working on and I have an email waiting to be sent to you, lol. My draft folders are always overflowing 😀.
